The Mediterranean
"jewel of biodiversity" is a global reservoir of marine
and coastal biodiversity and it is one of the 34 "hotspots" of biodiversity worldwide.
The
symposium "Natural parks and the Union for the Mediterranean" is
part of the International Year of Biodiversity which aims to set new
objectives for the protection of biodiversity worldwide.
These
meetings will provide an opportunity to introduce a reflexion on the
common stakes in the Mediterranean protected areas and to be in line
with the strategy of the "Union for the Mediterranean" lead by the
government. The presence of Henri
Guaino, Special
Adviser to the President of French Republic and Chantal
Jouanno, French
Secretary of State for Ecology will reinforce these perspectives.
So, on June 11th, politicians, scientists, managers of parks in
the Mediterranean, responsibles of Mediterranean networks and
experts will discuss shared topics :
- governance of the Mediterranean natural parks
- sustainable tourism and welcoming visitors in the parks of the Mediterranean
- agropastoralism in Mediterranean parks
- impact of the global change on Mediterranean ecosystems
The
objectives of this work are :promote exchanges and cooperation between
Mediterranean parks in the future and allow, with the support of
existing networks and structures, a dynamic network of protected areas
in the Mediterranean. |
